IPTV for… Grandmamma??? >:/

The bf was one of the few selected to test out the DETV decoder for the next 3 months. So I decided to sneak it back home for a few days, since Grandmamma loves watching Chinese entertainment programs and even better for her, you know why? Cos it actually has a dedicated Hokkien channel and the grandmamma loves to watch that kind of dramatic never-ending shows. Now that it is available to her 24 hours a day without any repeats (unless you decide to check back on the shows that you have missed out – DETV actually allows you a 3-day play back option)

DETV is extremely user friendly, if you have WIFI at home, just plug the decoder to your TV and then you are set to go. Sounds so simple right? But do bear in mind that it only works on StreamyX connection. At the moment they do not support Broadband as the availability / coverage is not 100% stable nor available nationwide. So I guess that makes sense as to why they only decide on StreamyX.

If some of you are still curious what DETV is about, it is actually a system that is more powerful than satellite and digital cable service (meant to rival people like Astro but of cos the Wah Lai Toi section) and rather than how Astro streams their programs from Hong Kong, DETV actually collaborated with China and Taiwan to provide you with the extensive streaming of their programs – hence the reason why there are actually no repeats at all on DETV.

DE TV streams simultaneous videos that are of DVD-quality on a large scale but using minimal data transmission. You can actually run a speed test to see how much data transmission is used, I did and it was only showing 0.82 kb/s. Whattt??? And the quality is awesome and it doesn’t even have any interruption when watching their shows. Quite impressive!

DE TV is still expanding and will be launching a few more channels and tie-ins but I do hope that they will bring in a bit more English shows, as much as I like watching TVB dramas but that is a bit too much ching chong-ing going on at one time.

So what are the rates like? From as low as RM28/month, you will be able to attain this out-of-the-world decoder and a package of selected channels for you fun viewing. Interested to know more? So just head over to DETV’s (detv.my) site and simply fill in the form and you will be attained to by respective DETV sales agents.

Oh yes, and another thing I would like to highlight would be the Facebook fan page for DE TV for more information on DE TV and all it’s latest contest and promotion, kindly click on the Facebook link and LIKE it. Then you will be able to keep updated on ALL latest news and promotions, as well as leave comments and feedbacks to DE TV and they will attend to you ASAP.

So simple, no?

My Precious Furkids Mini Birthday Bash

The bf and I were trying to think of something special to do for the furkid's birthday this year, as last year itself was difficult to top up (what else can you buy for doggies except for clothes, new dog collar / leash, clothes and threats? takkan buy them a house right? lol and we can't bring them for holidays unless it is back to Ruby's Resort and we may have plans for that in December (so not so special after all). So I got Vodka's wife to make cupcakes (she is really good at it!) that has cute Schnauzer's on top. Which she did. And she even went down to making Fatty slightly bigger and fatter than Ally, those nitty gritty stuff - Thank you! :)

So we called up a bunch of Schnauzer Blog friends and had a mini birthday party for the girls. They had quite some fun sniffing up butts and Fatty protecting all her friends like she owns them. Such fun *lol*

Thanks all to all who came, along with the presents for Fatty and Ally :)

The birthday girls..

... enjoying every last bit of their birthday cupcakes

Samsung Galaxy S - Android.

ANDROID phones have been flooding the market in the last few months. Most look similar and share the same features. Not so the Samsung Galaxy S which has a number of cool features to set it apart from the rest. It has a stunning 4in Super AMOLED (Active Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode) screen, speedy 1GHz Hummingbird processor, 720p HD video recording and 5.0-megapixel autofocus camera.

The review unit has 16GB of built-in memory. An 8GB model is also available.

Whichever model you get, storage capacity isn't a problem as the phone has a microSDHC card slot that supports up to 32GB cards. The stylish phone has a glossy black plastic exterior and the edges are brushed metal. The phone is long and has a curved bottom which is similar to the older iPhone models.

It's surprisingly light - weighing only 119g - and is probably one of the lightest Android 2.1 phones. The Nexus One and Motorola Milestone Android phones, for instance, weigh 130g and 165g respectively. The Galaxy S has a rocker switch on the left for controlling volume, power/standby key on the right and huge home button on the front.

It only has two illuminated touch-sensitive keys flanking the home button for Menu and Back functions unlike the Nexus One and Milestone which have four. For RM2,599 - this phone would be able to rival the current iPhone hype!!!

Plane makes smooth landing on Atlanta area highway.

Authorities say they're trying to determine what caused the engine problems that prompted a small plane to make an emergency landing on a busy stretch of Interstate 85 northeast of Atlanta.

The plane landed smoothly and without hitting any cars on a southbound stretch of the interstate Monday afternoon a few miles from Peachtree DeKalb Airport. Television shots showed traffic snarled for miles as the Piper Saratoga blocked at least four lanes around 5 p.m. as the city's evening rush hour was beginning. It was hauled away a few hours later.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen says no injuries were reported.
The pilot, identified as Matt Conway by WSB-TV, told the station mechanical problems forced him to land.

Latest News! Bruno Mars arrested for Cocaine Possession

Bruno Mars arrested for Cocaine Possession? Seriously??? But he was doing so well with his songs like Nothing on You and Billionaire (with Travie McCoy) and his super awesome latest song that all the girls loves to bits, "Just the Way You Are" (video below)

Las Vegas, NV, United States (AHN) - Bruno Mars was arrested for alleged cocaine possession in Las Vegas early Sunday morning. This comes after Paris Hilton was arrested for cocaine possession in the same city.

Mars performed at the Hard Rock Hotel the night before, and early Sunday morning, was busted in a Hard Rock public bathroom. Security guards confronted him, TMZ reported, and found him with drugs.

While it was first reported that guards thought Mars was in possession of narcotics, Las Vegas Metro released a report this afternoon that the drugs found were cocaine. Police said they were summoned to the Hard Rock at 1:50 A.M. on September 19 “to investigate the report of a Latin male adult being detained by hotel security.” Police say they found Mars with 2.6 grams of “‘white powdery substance’ believed to be cocaine.”

The timing is ironic; Paris Hilton was arrested for cocaine possession in Las Vegas just weeks ago on August 26. She was arrested in front of the Wynn hotel. Her hearing happened to be September 20, the day after Mars' arrest.

Hilton plead guilty to two drug-related misdemeanors, and was sentenced to a year of informal probation, to complete an intensive outpatient controlled substance abuse program, pay a $2,000 fine ($1,000 per offense) and serve 200 hours (100 for each count) of community service, according to E! News.

In addition, she was ordered by the judge to stay out of trouble.

Mars was booked and released at 7:45 A.M. after being arrested the same morning, and has not yet been charged.

Johns Hopkins Hospital Shooting.

OMG!!!

A man killed himself and his mother after shooting a doctor at the world’s famous Johns Hopkins Hospital. The incident reportedly took place after the man had been briefed about this mothers worsening condition. While the doctor was trying to explain the circumstances to the man, he reportedly became distraught, and then pulled a semi-automatic weapon from his waist band and shot the doctor in the stomach.

After shooting the doctor, he holed himself up in his mother’s hospital room for more than two hours. Police slowly made their way toward the room as they evacuated the hospital only to find that the man had shot himself and his mother.

It was not immediately clear what his mother was being treated for. Officers did not hear the fatal gunshots, and it was not immediately clear if the weapon that was used by the man had a silencer or not. The name of the doctor was not released but it was reported that he suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and is expected to live without any major damage.

The man who committed the shooting, Paul Warren Pardus, was 50 years old. His mother, Jean Davis, was 84 years old. He had no prior criminal record beyond a number of moving traffic violations, but it is clear that he had some serious mental problems judging from the incident. The hospital first opened in 1889 and is part of a $5 billion medical system.

Wonk.

Wonk is apparently the word of the day. Wonk which is a noun can defined as a person mainly a politician who is deep into a subject or an issue. For example the term policy wonk is used to explain people who study a specific subject or issue in a thorough and excessive manner.

The word wonk like many other words found in the dictionary has multiple meanings. Wonk can also be defined as homosexual. Wonk also means white person in Australia. Additionally wonk is used to describe people who are boring or individuals with no social lives.

Basil Thai Nudle Bar

Address:
Bangsar Village, Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur
G10, Ground Floor, Bangsar Village,
No.1, Jalan Telawi 1, Bangsar

Contact: 03-2287 8708, 03-2287 8710

Ok going a bit commercial now, as having the lack of time and energy to scout for none commercial food. I let the bf do the honor and courtesy of doing so. He is on the search for KL's number #1 Porkburger (currently Andes rates as number #1 and I couldn't help but have the same agreement, same goes with Becky) as well as had a rombongan ber-makan-makanan yesterday and to see the itinerary of what they had, it is HERE. He will be updating soon, so those who are interested can check his blog from time to time for updates.

So a slight introduction to Basil as quoted here:-

Basil Thai Nudle Bar, it takes its name from the renowned Thai Basil or bai horapa, a lusciously fragrant herb which generously enhances Thai fare, seafood dishes in particular. Thai basil has lush, deep green leaves, purplish flower buds and stems and carries anise overtones to its sweet basil scent.

Basil-Thai Nudle Bar is owned by SEA Cuisine Group of Restaurants. Interesting enough, SEA Cuisine owns over 9 thai restaurants in Malaysia but each restaurant has different name, menu and pricing. Here are some of the thai restaurants: Amarin Heavenly Thai Mid Valley, Siam Square Berjaya Time Square, Bangkok Jazz & To dine for Chulan Square and Bangkok Jam Plaza Low Yat.

The Mango sticky rice, with super fresh mango and surprisingly the sticky rice tasted really good. Not such a fan of this, but darsie loves this to bits, when we were in BKK, we were on a rampage looking for mango sticky rice to satisfy her taste butts. Don't blame her lor, cos OZ you really can't find such delicacy and if you do, doesn't really taste that good or authentic.

The otak-otak, not good at all. Overly moist and too creamy, you actually can't taste the otak-otak but just a tinge of it and the rest its like the drenched it with chillie and spices only. The texture is smooth but on the overall CMI.

The vegetable dish wasn't too salty and quite the yummy :D
This is a must order, Green Curry Chicken. I'm sure the ex-boss would love this, as it is his favorite dish. Everything we head to a Thai restaurant, it is a must have with white rice.

The treasure plate :)

Cheesecake Galore

Do you remember there was once a cheesecake shop called Mamuska The Cheesecake Shop and the marble cheesecakes there are just so fabulous. Thick and creamy with just the right taste and when you collect it from the shop, it is chilled to perfection. So hard that only when you take a knife and warm it up in hot water, shall you be able to slice the cheesecake properly.

Our family used to order cakes from there whenever it was any of our relatives birthday and I think I was like 8 or 10 years old, it was always something I looked forward to during family birthdays.

So recently I have a sudden craving for the cheesecake and have been on a cheesecake mad hunt to hunt down cheesecakes that tastes as good as that or at least similar to it.

First suggestion from V was Purple Monkey, so I googled it and found out that they sell whole cake from their home in Suasana Sentral as well as at the Thai restaurant in Section 14 called the White Elephant. So D helped me collect the cake and here's how it looks like.

Everyone on the fanpage was raving about how good it was. Well, it is actually not too bad, but not what I wanted and the Mango wasn't really that fresh. The cake is meant to be kept in the freezer and taken out to cool for max 30 minutes - best ate frozen-ish like as stated on the box.

The crust actually has a sweet and tinge of salty savory touch to it and the cheese actually compliments it well. However, I felt that the Mango was the spoiler of the combination - perhaps Mango's should not be ate frozen-ish.

Blackberryhousing.blogspot.com

It was time for a change of BB housing again. Got bored with the pink one that I changed several months back. Booked the white and purple sides one but had no time to get it done till recently. So off we were to his place to bling up the berry.

I swear, this guy is damn good at it. And without fail I always get amazed when he changes blackberry, whether it is mine or other people's. Recently saw him change the old berry Pearl casing as well, yups, he can do that as well. So if you have any old Blackberry phones Tour, Curve, Pearl, etc you can just call him up and if he can get the cover, then you will be in luck for a change.

The berry looks so ugly without the casing. So naked!

The blackberry looks like another piece of junk here

The man in action

Rainbow keypad looks better with white casing

Oh yes and for Apple fans, iPhone4, iPhone 3G, 3Gs and even iPad stuff. Do head over to his other blog, applecases.blogspot.com and choose the designs you want. If you have other things in mind, just send Eric a link and he will try to source it for you if he can.
